Our Mission

We attract high caliber athletes from all over the west and ensure that our players are exposed to the highest possible level of competitive basketball. We strive to identify and develop players who we believe are capable of attracting opportunities to play basketball at the "next level". It is our goal to secure opportunities for our players to play college basketball at any attainable level – whether at a 2-year junior college (with an opportunity to transfer to a 4-year university), or an NAIA, Division III, Division II or Division I university.

Read about us in the San Diego Union Tribune (June 2011).

We believe that any young man who secures a college athletic opportunity at any level should be very proud of his accomplishment. Players who are selected to play for a San Diego All-Stars team are expected to identify themselves as a "college-bound student-athlete". We expect an academic commitment from our players equal to their athletic commitment and we partner with parents, schools and local non-profit organizations to promote the academic success of our college-bound student athletes. Through our academic support programs, we educate our players to understand the key relationship between academic performance, athletic ability and college athletic opportunity in order to target opportunities that are most likely to lead to athletic and academic success.

We educate parents on the recruiting process and provide guidance on their son's opportunities. We are in the business of training young men in the sport of basketball and while we are committed to guiding your son toward academic achievement, we are not educators. The single most important factor in your son’s academic success – and success as a college bound student-athlete – will be your attention and expectations for academic achievement. As an SDA parent, you will be expected to attend at least one session at which we will review the college recruiting process and discuss common "pitfalls" we have seen among our players.

Working together, we hope to improve your son’s opportunities to attend a university as a student-athlete. Among all our players, by promoting and developing leadership characteristics such as integrity, honesty, team work, discipline, hard work, and commitment, we hope to prepare our players for life’s opportunities and challenges, both on and off the court. If we increase the skills, confidence and exposure of our players, and open the door for the opportunity to play college basketball, then we will have accomplished our basketball goals. If we help our players become responsible, accountable young men, then we will have accomplished our core mission.

For high school players, our athletic program operates from March through October each year, with practices, conditioning and participation in spring and summer “exposure” tournaments and showcases. Our academic program operates from September to June of each year in support of our committed student-athletes.

While many of our athletes stay with us throughout high school, we are always looking for new talent. We hold competitive try-outs for 9th through 12th grade players in March of each year and occasionally have openings for positions throughout the spring and summer seasons. Try-out dates are posted in late February or early March. Additionally, our player evaluations for 7th and 8th grade players are typically held in September or early October of each year, although we are open to considering 7th and 8th grade players throughout the year.
